Changing commanders level
Hi all
Have I got this initiative right?
Player 1: wants to activate his left wing (rolls dice loses)
Player 2: wins and moves his center.
next initiative
Player 1: is still keen to activate his left (rolls dice loses)
Player 2: wins and moves his left
next initiative
Player 1: still tries too activate his left (rolls loses again)
Player 2: wins and moves his last command
Player 1: must roll initiative dice before moving his center and right commands to check if they change quality this turn (double 1's).
But does the left wing command still have to roll again as it has already rolled (and I guess checked if his quality has changed)3 times this turn?
cheers

Re: Changing commanders level
hmm.. so the only 2D6 roll that counts in regards to changing a commanders level is the one that activates it?
Re: Changing commanders level
The way we play it that playet 1 will have rolled 2 D6 4 times for his left command so giving 4 opportunities for command level to change not just the one that actvates it. We dont do the 4th roll if command level has already changed on earlier turn.

Re: Changing commanders level
I believe ejc is correct. Every initiative roll has the possibility of changing commanders levels. Like ejc as a convention in our group we don't roll the 4th roll if the commander level has already changed since it can only change once per game.
Because of this when a 1 commander goes down to 0 it is very important to protect him from rolling doubles and automatically ending activation. We all generally keep this commander to the very end in the activation pattern. Every initiative attempt risks rolling doubles. But sometimes you don't have a choice!

Note that when that happens that command fails activation but that side other commands will continue normally, rolling for activation, etc.
Those generals are cheap but there's some risk...
An example from my last game. I had 2 commands, with 1 Poor and 1 Incompetent general. 1st turn, 1st roll for the Poor: 1+1. So, 2 incompetent generals from there.
Two turns later after my opponent played his commands (I lost all initiatives - no surprise, his generals were all reliable) I still had to throw dice. Each commander got a "double". Couldn't be worse, but we had a lot of fun with this episode.
