Pilum - Clarification

It's hard to believe having played these rules from first publication but we actually had our first use of pilum yesterday - Seleucid Imitation legio facing down Galatian warband.

Pilum is a pre-cursor to melee in its own distinct sub-phase. For the resultant cohesion test, does it count as shooting for the various shooting modifiers to the CT?

We could find no comment on this (probably on the old board somewhere), in the end we allowed the Galatian to include it as shooting - he was feeling a bit pressed at the time but I have doubts that was the intent.

A note to clarify in the next AI would be useful (if it has been updated on one of the amendments fair enough but we only ever refer to the AI these days so it would be helpful if everything was collated together).

Pilum is part of the melee Zipee and doesn't count as shooting for the resulting CT.

As per Tarty, the pilum is worked out as if it were melee and does not get the +1 for PB/Short Range modifier on the CT. So when it hits it can be really effective.

Thanks, I was pretty certain but it was hard to argue against "but it's a missile and thus shooting" without sounding petty at the time!
