Persian Sparabara

Are the Persian Sparabara treated like a large unit for casualties? i.e. casualties taken from the second rank with the front one remaining fresh?

Yes thats correct Philip.
There could be a change to Sparabara units with the bow being moved to the front ( so no loss of missile capability when the back unit is effected ) ..... but nothing official as yet.

We did have a battle, Kushites against Persians and I watched carefully to see how the Sparabara would perform.

One unit was flattened by an elephant charge, the other unit hit from behind the flank by Kushite horsemen.

The other two units were the sole survivors of the Persian army and took very few casualties.

So no help there then

Our experience so far has been a very marginal increase in Spara effectiveness. Basically moving the bow to the front rank means they keep their missile capability longer, but in the actual games we have played this has not had any real effect as opponents try to close with them anyway.

The change is worthwhile, but dont expect the earth to move
