Solo gaming?

Are there any solo wargamer? Have someone tried to play Impetus or BI alone?

I play solo quite a bit generally with infantry armies as I can automate them a bit more easily.

Romans, hoplites, Vikings and Medieval Irish are all handy for it.

As a long-time soloist, I can attest to what Starkadder (the right honourable gent from OZ) says. There are more than several blogs and sites from which aspiring soloists or "stranded" wargamers can obtain solo ideas. For example, TMP has a dedicated forum. The Lone Warrior blog (and journal, for that matter) also contains a wealth of ideas for solo wargaming that are easily applied across all periods.

I don't have a wealth of experience with Impetvs, but what experience I have had has been as a solo player. It depends on one's interest and the time available.

I don't see why Impetus should be any harder than any other rule set to play solo. The initiative system might even help keep the solo player 'honest'

I'm working at a very simple skirmish set to be played as a solo. It is mostly for WW2/Modern but I think can be evolved into other periods.

Actually they are a series of scenarios+rules (stand alone pdf)

I'm looking for a good name for the whole series.

Hmmm...Solo.....WW2 or modern.....

"Patrol"

"Contact!"

"Roads" (Re-Organization of Army Divisions)- Shows evolution

"Krieg Seitz" - (War Time)

"Grazing Fire"

"Shock and Awe"

I'm trying to keep the name open also for other period. The conceptof Patrol is ok, but the name is too common.
I like Grazing Fire, but probably too modern.

One name I have is "Back before sundown". How does it sound?

Not to be too critical, but "Back before sundown" doesn't invoke WW2 or Modern for me.

yes is a generic name to work for all periods.

Another good, but used, was FUBAR. I think perfect for a solo game.

How's about Hostile intent

mmmh, sounds a little... hostile, though it can embrace a wider period.
This suggests me a good name: Hostile Ground.

Hmm generally only played solo for practice myself, and it does work pretty well with most of Lorenzo's games - as long as you have the patience to set things up properly with a bit of variety/chaos.

it will be a very simple set, with a good load of fantasy put by the player (as most of solo games by the way)

Looking forward to seeing them. Perhaps they'll become my go to set for an eventual modern era Imagi-nations concept that I've been contemplating and writing up over time. Or perhaps just borrowed from for whatever solo concepts might be shared from within its pages.

I think there's a lot of mileage in solo systems, even just solo campaigns to produce battles you fight with one-off opponents.
