Fortress Question

OK, some lists have "fortresses". Quite nice they are if you are facing an aggressive enemy.

One effect is that cavalry cannot charge units protected by them.

So what happens to impetuous cavalry?

Must they make a pseudo attempt to "charge" if they come within 30U and the fortress unit is the closest?

Or does the presence of the fortress negate the requirement for the impetuous types to charge?

I'd suggest the latter is more reasonable, but others may disagree.

What are your thoughts?

Are you talking Fortress or Fortifications? If an actual Fortress then they would see the futility and search elsewhere for something to charge.

In the case of Fortifications, I would look at it the same as Pike or Schiltron and they would make an attempt but no Impetus Bonus.

Sorry, fortifications.

And they can't attack across them. Infantry lose their impetus and one more, cavalry simply cannot hit across them (in melee at least).

No they ignore them ...treat like impassable terrain

Speaking of fortifications my gaming group finds them a steal at 5 points each and that they truly dominate the game to the point of not advancing against them and taking the draw. Flank marches help counter field fortifications and we've come up some simple house rules around deployment of field fortifications but I was wondering if others found them this dominating?
