Charismatic Generals Bonus

Charismatic Generals give a +1 bonus to subordinate commanders during initiative (2.7.1 page 15). Is this compulsory or optional?

I believe it is compulsory. After a couple of turns of play I've always want to go first so its never a problem after that. Can I take from your question that you'd like to not win the initiative. As an aside, I've always thought that should you win the initiative roll you should be able to pass the activation over to the other side (ie. force him to go first.) However the rules don't work that way (with the exception of Genius generals.)

it is compulsory. Impetus 2 will allow to pass the initiative.

Thanks for the replies. Yes GC, normaly I'm happy to take the initiative, but just occasionaly it can be useful to pass...

Does à Charismatic CIC give bonus to his Command only or full army ?
And if lost ? D test for Command or full army ?

In Advanced Impetus, a Charismatic General gives a +1 bonus to all troops in his Command for Discipline Tests but only to Rally. If killed, all units of his Army must take an immediate Discipline Test. If failed, unit is Disordered and if already Disordered, it takes a permanent loss on VBU.
