Brand new potential player with army size question
Greetings all
I play DBA Have lots of armies
I have 2 armies of my favs ...Egyptians, Hittittes, sea peoples, Philistines,Nubians..plus Vikings, norse Irish and Anglo danes.
Plus extra stands I have say 30 stands per army if needed
Would 30 DBA 15mm stands with 3-4 figs per stand be enough to be able to play these great rules
Reason asking Other systems we wanted to use , well ya had to have minimum 60 stands and 80 stands each army was for decent games ...so not viable to our group
Thanks all
And DBA stands, I guess for the large groups mentioned in the rules summary here, we could put 2 stands together....same as the new DBA SPEAR 8 Rule...2 stands of 4 spear front to rear together
thanks all

Re: Brand new potential player with army size question
Well as there is no requirement to the number of figures on a base, that is pretty much up to a players preference for a "look" as to what's right on a base.
As for your DBA armies, for the full impetuous game you might be struggling to field a full army, but for Basic impetious that we play you should be fine.
cheers

Re: Brand new potential player with army size question
I would recommend that you play a game of Basic Impetus with the set army lists provided free o the forum but then you could quickly move to full Impetus rules. I think you will want to move to the full Impetus rules as this gives the options to create your own armies using the points system for the different army lists.
I usually play 25 mm where 400 points has now become a very common size of army for a game.
Also don't forget if you are playing Impetus to get the free clarifications from the website to go with the rule set -if you don't you will get confused with lots of the conversations in the forum.
Cheers Jez

Re: Brand new potential player with army size question
To play the full game using the prescribed basing dimensions (80mm frontage) you will likely need about 60-80 stands. But of course it depends on the army. The two periods you mention tend to be heavy on the figures.

thanks for great response
thankyou all....yes dark age heavy on figs for sure....
We have around 30 stands of each of the bigger empires ..aka Hittite sea people Egypt....with allies around a total 35-40 stands
But wargames are that ...games...Im sure we could try basic and get friends to loan / bring stands
thanks again guys

Re: Brand new potential player with army size question
Typically most Impetus bases equate to 4 DBx bases, however as depth isn't really that crucial you could happily play games with pairs of bases to make the 80mm frontage.
Of course you could microsize the game and play with one 40mm base as 1 impetus base but I suspect this would get a bit fiddly.
When I rebased I found that I didn't use 4 bases to a base but rather 2-3 bases, so if you rebase the figures go a lot further.
My advice grab yourself some impetus bases from Warbases, plonk a single DBx base on each to indicate the troop type and play some games. Once you've decided they are for you (and note there is a 2ed round the corner with some substantial improvements) then make a decision on whether to expand your 40mm based collection or to take the plunge and rebase.
I took that plunge for several thousand figures - best decision I ever made.
