Couple of Questions Empty Couple of Questions

Post by T13A Sun Jan 24, 2016 3:32 pm

Hi

A couple of questions arose during another good game at the club (Mid-Somerset Wargamers) the other night.

To gain the +1 for being uphill (7.5 Other Tactical Modifiers, page 38) how much of the units base has to be on the hill? I.e. if the rear of the units base was on the hill but the front edge contacting the enemy unit was on the flat, would it still get the +1?

Secondly, if a unit has to retreat due to losing a melee (7.6.2 Loss of Melee and Retreat of the defeated unit, page 38), is the direction of retreat always directly to the rear of the way the unit is facing, regardless of where the enemy unit is coming from? As far as I can see it does not specifically state which direction the retreat should be in, but the inference from the diagram example on page 39 suggests that this is the case.

And lastly just a general enquiry, do many people use the 'Roll of Destiny' optional rule on page 44?

Many thanks.

Cheers Paul

3.1.3 lays out the conditions for gaining a +1 hill bonus.

Yes, the units move back on its own axis and the direction of the attack has no bearing on how the defender retreats.

We don't use the Roll of Destiny in our games but my impression is that many groups and tournaments do. Years ago we played Napoleon's Battles and used a similar option. It left a bad taste in our mouths. Today we feel men should simply deal with fate and not try to lessen its effects by such namby pamby rules! Laughing

Couple of Questions Empty Re: Couple of Questions

One option we've used instead of the roll of destiny is to just have one dice. It's the 're-roll' dice.
It's placed on the table and a player who wants to re-roll a bad roll can take it and use it. But they then have to hand it to the other player. That player can hold onto it for as long as they want. But the minute they use it, they pass it to the other player.
It's amazing how many players decide they're going to just hog the dice and keep it out of play, but end up succumbing to the need to use it Shocked
