Book on Avars, Magyars etc
Dear all,
Can anyone suggest a source book for armies, history and warfare of the Avars, Magyars etc? I know very little about this period, but would like to know more.
Many thanks
Jon

To be honest the stuff I've got on them tends to be in books about other people, or in general books where they're one of the topics

Well, don't keep us in suspense. At least how about the books where they are one of the topics. ; )

Re: Book on Avars, Magyars etc
Most of my stuff is in Books about Byzantium which I've picked up over the years, normally second hand or remaindered
However books useful as an overview are books like
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Empires-Barbarians-Migration-Development-Europe/dp/0330492551/
Or perhaps this pdf
http://mek.oszk.hu/09100/09132/09132.pdf
Hungary in the Carpathian Basin
They're also covered in Armies of the Dark Ages
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Armies-Dark-Ages-600-1066-A-D/dp/0904417158 (which I saw at a wargames show for a tenner)

I think Osprey do one about the steppe peoples, they do have one about Charlemagne
I picked up MAA 150 The Age of Charlemagne second for £3
It's got a picture of a Avar and another of a Magyar in it
