Large Units - Pike questions

I have read the rules and the Army lists. I am confused about the building of a Large Unit from 3 unit pike units (bases).

Question 1:

All the lists for Macedonian type pike list max as multiples of 2 and not 3.

How do you build a 3 rank Agema unit whose Min-Max is 0-2?

Is this interpreted as:

2 Agema LU's each made up of either 1,2, or 3 bases

OR

2 Agema units each of 1 base/1 Agema LU of 2 bases?



Question 2:

Does a 3 rank Pike unit (5 VBU front rank) lose its casualties as follows:

4 VBU from the rear Rank remove, then 4 VBU from the middle rank, remove and then 5 VBU from the front rank, remove at which point it is dead?

Loving the rules, Have Komnenan and Seljuk armies based already, building a Seleucid army next.

Q1 - neither.
The numbers in the list refer refer to single units. So, 1 LU with 2 bases.

I think there are only a couple of cases like that. As for the regular pikes, many lists give a maximum of 12 or 18, so multiples of 2 and 3.

I guess elite pike have no need for forming up in files of 36 men. 18 is enough.
