Impetuous Troops and charging
Well, had much fun at SouthCon in Dunedin playing with warbands.
I have a couple of questions that need clarification tho. Looked on the old forum and couldn't find answers, so feel free to direct me back if you know if this is already explained.
Let's say you have a single enemy unit, and two Large Units of Galatian FL having to charge it. They don't start in a group, so they must charge the enemy separately.
The first unit charges in and the melee results in a draw. The second FL is now required to charge the same enemy unit. They cannot make a full move straight ahead and reach the enemy because the melee is in the way. They fail to go on opportunity, and there is no other enemy visible within 30MU.
Rule 5.10.2 is clear that the FL cannot involuntarily displace the other FL because of the melee.
So where does the FL go?

Re: Impetuous Troops and charging
The second unit of impetuous FL crashes into the back of the first FL and stops.
With impetuous troops it is all too easy to create a logjam, with units queued up one behind the other and no easy way to untangle them because they can only move straight forward or wheel towards the nearest enemy. Moreover, in your situation, where the first FL is in melee, there can be even more problems for the second FL if the first is forced to retreat or is routed.
That's the problem with impetuous troops; they want to attack the enemy and don't always think of the best way to do that.

Re: Impetuous Troops and charging
Righto. In the actual example I was careful with the wheels and left enough room for the 2nd FL to get in.
Best keep doing that.
