American Civil War
Hello,
For a year now, I've been toying with the idea of an ACW variant of Impetus, building upon the Grandeur set for Napoleonics.
My intent is work on this over the coming fall and winter, and to post updates here as I go. There probably won't be much to see until around August, as I've got a ton of painting to get done on my ancient armies.
Regardless, I've set aside a number of bases with markers on them for now to play through the Napoleonic rules until I'm familiar enough with them to compare and contrast with ACW period weapons, maneuver and organization/command.
I wanted to post this here because I'd be interested in other's comments and suggestions as well.

Re: American Civil War
I'm working on my 28mm Late Achaemenid Persian army, and my focus is on this currently as well. And although I have 28mm ACW projects on the back burner, my basing will be 40mm x 40mm for a multitude of other rules. Suppose I could line up 3 abreast for this, yet I'm a good ways off yet before returning to these.

Re: American Civil War
That ought to work just ducky.
Since each base will equal a brigade, in most cases they will be formed up as 4 units to one division. Some divisions, historically, will be more, some fewer, but on average, both US and CS divisions had 4 brigades, so each division will represent a single command.
On average, their were 3 divisions per Corps, so that gives you 3 separate commands per Corps.
Figure-wise, I'm looking at either 10 or 12 minis per base, depending up esthetic details like fences, bushes, trees, etc. We'll see as things progress. Except in rare cases, I won't be using any flags on the bases, just with the Division command base.
Also, I believe I've found a way to use skirmisher bases in these rules, which would be a single base that represents a portion of the brigade's VBU from which it is pulled. IN actual use, although every company in ever regiment was trained in skirmish drill, most of the time, in large engagements, a single regiment from each brigade was deployed as skirmishers across the brigade front.
Regardless, we'll see how it all pans out.

Each of my 40x40 bases is likely going to have 4 figures each, perhaps 3 for things like dismounted cav.
