Fortifications and dispersing units

Does the use of fortifications stop artillery and skirmishers from being dispersed when they are charged? I know skirmishers can fight in difficult going but I can't find anything about defending fortifications helping them or artillery.

Also can cavalry benefit from fortifications? I can't think of anything like it from history but the rules don't say you can't Perhaps I might have to use some common sense....

I haven't got my copy of the rules with me at the moment, but I am pretty sure artillery behind fortifications are not dispersed but fight a melee. Perhaps someone else can point to the relevant rule. Is it in the tutorial on fortifications in one of the EIs? Of course, the artillery is likely to have only a VBU of 1 in that fight.

Cavalry behind fortifications? I agree it is odd but can't see why the fortifications rules wouldn't apply. You can have fortifications with wagenburg and they are 'mounted' troops.

As far as I can tell, any Unit can be behind Fortifications. Using common sense, S behind Fortifications wouldn't be dispersed, the intent is not to have them undefended in the open.

If you look at the Tutorial on Fortifications at the back of EI2 you'll see that Artillery and Skirmishers are specifically identified as not dispersing if completely behind fortifications.
