warband vs spearmen

Do a have this right?

large Warband VBU5 charges a single unit of spearmen VBU 5 who counter charge

The warband would get 5 dice(VUB) +2 dice(Impetus bonus*) +1(large unit)
total 8dice

The spearmen would get 5dice(VBU) +2 dice(Impetus bonus)
total 7dice

*warband impetus bonus reduced for charging spearmen 4 down to 2*

just seems warband have lost there punch in 2nd edition or am I missing something?

Not really. The Warband is still cheaper and gets to absorb punishment with the 2nd stand. Huge advantage. There are a few extra bonuses for impetuous units in Impetus 2 and the impetuous move has become far less of a problem. Warbands also fight a bit better against mounted units because they get the +1 depth bonus against both troop types. Overall I think they come out about even with the original set.
