Question about unit stats.
Hi guys, this may seem a basic question but what is the basis of a units statistics? Movement and Discipline are straightforward but I cannot find any instructions on how to work out VBU, Impetus and VD. I have ancient impetus and all the Impetus Extras so the work has been done for me there but I have recently bought Baroque and would like to start making some lists based on the FoG army list books. I know some lists are being written and will be published in due course but I would prefer not to wait and do my own. There must be some rules that list makers follow? Any help given would be greatly appreciated.

Reasonable question Nick. Lorenzo may well release something covering this eventually. There is a 'points calculator' for making Impetus units can't see why he wouldn't reveal the recipe for Baroque also at some stage.

Re: Question about unit stats.
Hi tarty, yes I have the points sheet but that only assigns a value to a unit once it has been created, it doesn't shed any light on why one unit is a "6" and another a "4", what are the formulas? I am starting to suspect that the authors want to keep it a secret so people have to buy the period modules. A shame if true.......

I would just go ahead anyway Nick couldn't go far wrong if using the FoG lists as a guide they're pretty good. I've done a couple using the DBR books also wasn't too hard.

no problem to publish the point system (I was convinced to have already done), just bear in mind that this may include the cost of some special not yet included and/or tested.

Re: Question about unit stats.
I am not after points values but the mechanism that allows VBU to be calculated.

Re: Question about unit stats.
There is no mechanism that allows VBU to be calculated that I am aware of. In Impetus there are certain conventions that lend to certain ratings. So for instance, average T units have a VBU of 3 and better T have a VBU of 4. Same with CL. High quality FP is 6, average FP is 5, below average is 4. Average S are 2, above average 3 and so on. It might be helpful to know from Lorenzo the conventions he followed in Baroque that caused him to rate units at a certain VBU. Perhaps there are enough lists that you can deduce this?

Re: Question about unit stats.
well, first it comes from experience and playtest.
Generally troops with VBU 4 or less are not troop for melee.
For shock foot VBU 5 is average, while VBU 6 is elite.
For Mounted shock cavalry can reach VBU 8, but only if really strong. VBU 6 is poor and is the average.
