Nobles as the Front Rank of a large unit with Billmen
I wanted to follow up with two questions related to Nobles becoming the front unit of a large unit with the rear unit being Billmen.
1. Does the polearm in the rear rank cancel impetus? Judging from the answer on a previous topic the answer is no. As I pointed out the pdf How to Use Extra Impetus and Beta Lists with Impetus 2. states under Polearm "Please note that the upgrade is compulsory for all Units fielded, including in the case of the War of Roses lists, also those billmen forming a Large Unit with a Noble Unit." It certainly gives the impression that large units with a front unit made up of Nobles gets the polearm upgrade.
2. More interestingly perhaps does the rear rank of Billmen give a rear rank bonus (+1 vs Foot, +2 vs mounted)?

Re: Nobles as the Front Rank of a large unit with Billmen
as for point 1, as altrady exolained in the other post, you are not forced to form a Large Unit VBU 6+5, that is probably one of the best troops you can field. With Polearm would be too much.
2. Depth bonus is for Large Units where both are equipped the same. The front rank has no polearm so the bonus is not applied.
Some considerations. As said Large Units VBU 6+5 are string enough. With the new upgrade also Billmen Large Units are getting stronger. Of course they pay 6 pts more, but can deal with best mounted now.

Thanks Lorenzo. I don't disagree. Just wanted to be sure. Your answer actually also gave a basic principle I find helpful. The Depth Bonus applies to units who are both armed with the same equipment. That is useful to remember going forward.
