New aces: Baggage.

New aces: Baggage.

Post by dadiepiombo on Thu Mar 02, 2017 9:28 am

In the near future I plan to start to release new Aces for BI2.
The idea is to release every time a set (free pdf) of 6 Aces with description and "cards".

Also I recommend (once these new aces will be released) to use 2 of them per game to create your favorite combo.

Some of these Aces will favour ambushes, "flank marches" and other tactical options (eg ignore a ZoC) and also objectives.

One of the Ace I want to release with the first set is the Baggage (as I know many of you miss it).

Before releasing some of the Aces I will post the draft here in the forum for additional playtest.

Let's start with Baggage then Very Happy
Take it as a draft, to be improved and edited in proper English.

BAGGAGE
You can place a Baggage in any part of your deployment area. Baggage must be placed on good terrain (can include a gentle hill) before any other Unit, so in an ipotetical Step 0 in the deployment rules.
A Baggage must be of rectangular shape and with each side being no more than 6H and not less than 2H.
Baggage can be interpenetrated only by friendly troops.
A Baggage has a VBU=1. It nullifies Impetus bonus to any enemy. It provides an additional 2VDs but if lost counts as 4 VDs.

Seems reasonable enough to me.

Can it be freely interpenetrated by any friendly units? Even in evade or retreat?

it can be interepentrated by friendly Unit. As for evade and retreat I would say yes.

Thanks, Lorenzo. The prospect of more aces sounds good.

However, why would I want to choose the baggage option? OK, it adds 2 to my army VDT but I lose 4 VD if it is taken, which is a lot for BI2 armies. The BI2 battlefield is normally fairly open, so it would be hard to protect, even if my troops could move through it. I suppose the enemy will be drawn to it, concentrating the fight, but it still seems a risky option.

When I suggested an 'objective', I was thinking that it limited players freedom to roam the table, rather than improving it.

Now, if my 'baggage ace' forced my opponent to have baggage ......

well objective as well as scenarios ("missions") can be another addition in the future.
The baggage is something in the middle.
The Ace is just a draft and must be tuned to give pros and cons. So just after some playtest the righ balance of VS given and to risk can be worked out.
Actually terrain in BI2 can be close enough as terrains are bigger. Not sure a baggage can be so easily taken once places behind a wood or an impassable.
