Rolling dice for caracole

I was asked a question last game, when a massed unit of reiters passes its test to caracole the rules say it can fire twice. Are the number of firing dice rolled twice applying any effects each time, or can they be combined together into one single roll? Its just that I think if the dice are all rolled together it can increase the chances of a hit so the answer could be important.

Reading the rule, to me it is two distinct firing actions. Not least because you have to pass a discipline test to fire the second time, and the second firing can trigger a separate reaction.

Fire and see effects. Then make a test, if passed you can fire again.
