Parthian Infantry
I am currently in the midst of painting up a Parthian army using some of the ideas
from Jim Webster' excellent guide. (Thanks Jim!). I am in a bit of a dilemma on how
to portray Hyrcanian infantry. At present my idea is revolving around Greek style
thurephoroi or Persian Kardakes/Takabara or maybe a mixture of the two? Anyone
have any better ideas. Might possibly depend on whether early or late Parthian, with
possibly early having more Persian style dress and mid to late leaning towards
Hellenistic style?

Re: Parthian Infantry
I'd have gone with something like Kappadokian infantry - trousers, comb cap and semi-thureos. Or if more Greece-Persian, trousers, tiara and bronze pelta.
But nobody can say that eastern Hellenic thureophoroi are wrong, they are ubiquitous.
I'd stay away from kardakes/takabara if only because there's so much debate as to what they looked like

Re: Parthian Infantry
It's something of an embarrassment when you do a google search to find that there's very little except from Rome Total War
I'd go for a 'Persian/Kappadokian' look.
We know that they were Sparabara under Xerxes, so they'd probably stick with 'Median dress', most people round there did, so I'd avoid bare legs.
Shields? If you're delving through your pile of spare metal then be flexible. I have a lot of Irregular Miniatures Sparabara which I bought, then bought a early persian army very reasonable so didn't need to paint my own figures. So I've been looking at them and thinking, 'Hyrcanians'
But only because I'd got them. A round shield with bronze or leather is probably equally realistic

Re: Parthian Infantry
Thanks Jim and Zippee. I did the same thing coming up with just Total War! I was leaning towards the Median/Persian look, but was just confirmation that I was on the right lines. I do have some Persian stuff so should be able to put something together with some new figures and the bits box.
Many thanks.
